5/31/23... Perris, California: Saturday Night, AJ Bender would be back in action at Perris Auto Speedway with the USAC CRA Sprint Cars. He would end up taking home his best finish of the season with the USAC CRA Sprint Cars.
AJ got his night going with time trials. He would hit the track & was able to lay down a pretty decent lap. Unfortunately, he would not get the lap that he wanted. AJ would make some mistakes & end up being 9th quick overall.
He would roll off from the pole of his heat race. AJ would quickly jump out to the lead of the heat race & never looked back. The heat race win would go to AJ in what was a very good showing for him.
"I qualified 9th but could have been a lot better I just made a driver mistake. That started me on the front row of the heat race. I got the lead off the start and was able to pick up the win but more importantly the car felt like a whole new car."
The feature saw AJ roll off from 9th. Early on he would grab a few spots, but struggled to work the top. He would end up going to the bottom, getting into a rythm & moving forward. On the final restart he started 4th & tried to challenge for a podium. AJ came up short but grabbed a 4th place finish.
"In the main we started 9th and quickly got a couple spots. Car felt really good for the first half of the race but I struggled to work the cushion once it got to big ledge. We had a caution with a few to go. And on the restart I found something on the bottom and worked my way to 4th."
It was a great night for AJ Bender with the USAC CRA Sprint Cars. He would grab one of his best finishes of the season & looked the best he has all season in the non winged sprint car.
