10/4/23… Watsonville, California: Friday & Saturday Night, Caleb Debem was in action at Ocean Speedway. However, it wasn’t in a Sprint Car. He would hop aboard an IMCA Sport Mod for two nights of action.
They kicked the weekend off on Friday, where they’d jump straight into heat race action. Caleb rolled off from the 4th spot & it would be a tough adjustment for him. He fell back from 4th to 7th & would finish the heat race there.
He would have to go to the C-main where he started in the 5th spot. As time went on, Caleb seemed to get more comfortable, but still had a tough time in the C-main. After starting 5th, he would fall back to 8th. Caleb would finish in the 8th spot & his night would end there.
Going into Saturday, Caleb went out for the heat race & once again started in the 4th spot. The heat race went similarly to Friday’s heat race. After starting 4th, Caleb would fall back & once again finish in the 7th position.
This time it sent him to the B-main, where he started in the 11th spot. Caleb was able to get some more valuable laps under his belt. However, he would fall back from 11th to 14th, as he wouod end his night & his weekend there.
“It was fun, driving the Sport Mod was the opposite of driving the Sprint Car. The way I was on the throttle & braking was different. It was a lot slower but still really fun.”
It was a cool opportunity for Caleb & his team at Ocean Speedway. There may be a few more races left on the schedule for Caleb, but you’ll have to stay tuned to find out when!
