By: Fast Time Media

6/14/24… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Colby Johnson was back in action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. After almost a month off of racing, Colby was ready to roll at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday Night.

The night began with qualifying for Colby. He would be the 11th of 23 Winged 360 Sprint Cars to hit the track. Going out around halfway through the field, Colby would lay down a time of 13.558. That was enough for him to time in 22nd quickest overall in time trials.

Going into the heat race, Colby rolled off from the 8th & final starting spot. After fixing some lingering issues, Colby was able to find some more speed in the heat race. Gaining a pair of spots, Colby got to 6th & finished the heat race there.

“After qualifying, we found something wrong with the aero package & the wing was in the wrong place. We fixed that & were much faster in the heat race.”

As he went out for the feature, he had his work cut out for him. Colby started in the 15th spot & quickly went to work. He would battle forward & found himself around the top-5. Unfortunately under caution it felt like something was broken.

Colby pulled into the work area but they didn’t find any issues on the car. After making some adjustments, Colby was back on track & would begin to make his way forward again. He made his way forwards before he had nowhere to go & got into the car in front of him. When it was all said & done, Colby would finish the feature event in the 17th position.

“We were running well in the feature & got into like 6th or 7th. On a restart it felt like something was broken in the front end. Went to the work area but nothing was wrong. While going back through the field, the guy in front of me’s motor let go & I had nowhere to go.”

Overall it was a solid night for Colby & his team. They were able to figure out some issues on the car & make some important improvements. He will be back in action tomorrow night at Antioch Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

Colby would like to thank his sponsors; Pit Stop USA, Trench Shoring, Johnny Franklin’s Muffler - Driveline - Hitch, Tim McCloskey Electric, Inc., Ed Pink Racing Engines, NAPA Lake Parts, Inc., Rodela Specialty Fabrication, Lifeline Fire & Safety Systems, Met Tec, M2 Bearings, K1 RaceGear, Bell Helmets, Sequoia Rifleworks, System 1 Pro Ignition, Schoenfeld Headers, R.J.’s Race Graphics, QuickCar, & Bjork Construction.
