6/26/23… Watsonville California: Friday & Saturday Night, Colby Johnson would be in action at both Ocean Speedway & Placerville Speedway. Friday Night. He brought home a 10th place finish & followed it up with a 12th place finish on Saturday Night.
He began Friday Night with qualifying, as he was the 3rd car to hit the track. Going out early, Colby would lay down a solid time which put him 9th quickest overall. In the heat race, he started 2nd but would battle issues. Colby finished the heat race in the 5th position.
“On Friday at Watsonville we had an electrical issue and rear bar issue that we didn’t figure out until the end of the night.“
After battling issues in the heat race, he started the feature event in the 10th spot. Starting 10th, Colby would just try & get into a rythm. He ran some solid laps as the race went on & brought home a 10th place finish in the feature event.
Saturday Night he would be in Placerville for his first trip to the Hill in 2023. He began the night with qualifying, where he would be the 27th car to hit the track. Going out late, Colby would end up 19th quickest in qualifying.
“We went out last in qualifying which slowed us down a bit.”
That lined him up in the 5th spot for his heat race. Starting 5th, Colby would finish where he started in the 5th spot & miss the transfer for the feature by one spot. He would have to go to the B-main where he started 5th. Colby would drive forward, gaining two spots & making a transfer spot.
Making the feature, Colby started in the 19th spot. It was a fast & consistent feature event. The race would go flag to flag, as Colby was able to move forward. He went from 19th to 12th & earn the hard charger award.
“We were able to come from the b-main all the way up to 12th in the A-Main, green to checkered & earned the hard charger!”
It was a solid weekend for Colby in his first full weekend of racing. He had battled issues earlier in the season but Saturday would be his first full night of racing without issues this season!
