6/5/24… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Cooper Marchant was back in action at Petaluma Speedway. He would continue to get some more valuable laps at the track with their weekly point series.
The night started out with time trials where Cooper was the 9th of 13 Wingless Sprints to hit the track. The early seaosn qualifying woes continued for Cooper. He didn’t get the lap that he wanted as he timed in 12th quickest overall.
Going out for the heat race, Cooper rolled off from the outside of row three in the 6th spot. Cooper was able to keep the nose clean & stay out of trouble. After starting 6th, Cooper gained a spot & finished in the 5th spot.
“It was an overall good weekend for the Marchant Motorsports team. There is still a lot of time to be found during qualifying. We are still working on figuring out how to improve in that area. The rest of the night was decent, we kept our nose clean through the heat race.”
As they went into the feature, Cooper rolled off from the 10th spot. Early on he was able to hold his own & keep some guys behind him. Unfortunately after another driver made contact with Cooper, it bent the drag link. He tried to keep going but would pull in with five to go & finished 12th.
“The start of the main was a good run, we had a good pace rolling. The car behind us was gaining, they went on the inside to through us a slider & it didn’t work out for us. It launched the car up a bit & it bent the drag-link. We got fired back up, & kept rolling. We did not end up taking the checkered, I pulled off with 5 to go. I felt the car was getting harder to control as the race went on with the tweaked steering.”
It was a solid night for Cooper as he continues to get laps under his belt at Petaluma Speedway. Ultimately, he made the smart decision at the end of the race to pull & off to stay out of trouble & end his night early.
