5/1/24… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Cooper Marchant was in action at Petaluma Speedway to kick off the Joe Hunt Series with the Randy Larson Memorial. 33 Wingless Sprints showed up to kick off the season.
The night started out with time trials, where Cooper was the 19th of 33 Wingless Sprints. Cooper didn’t end up laying down the time that he wanted. A time of 17.494 was enough to time Cooper in 29th quickest overall.
Next up for Cooper was the heat race, where he’d roll off from the outside of row four the 8th starting spot. From 8th, Cooper battled hard in the heat race. He was able to gain a spot & ended up finishing in the 7th position.
Heading into the B-main, the track began to change & Cooper began to feel more confident.
“Felt very comfortable in the car, & was able to really improve lap times. The track was more what I like racing on, a bit drier surface, a bit slicked off.”
Cooper would start the B-main on the inside of the five in the 9th starting spot. The more the track slickened off, the more comfortable Cooper felt. He was able to move forward & gain a few spots. Cooper ended up finishing 6th & missed the feature by two spots.
“The Randy Larson Memorial was a huge step in the right direction for us. I gained a lot more confidence in the car as the night went on. I really was happy with how the weekend went.”
It was a solid night for Cooper to kick off the Hunt Series season. He was able to get some more valuable laps & move forwards every time he hit the track on Saturday Night.
