10/4/23… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Cooper Marchant would get behind the wheel of the Wingless Spec Sprint for the first time in his career. They had been working on the car all season, & it was finally ready to hit the track.
Cooper began the first night of action with qualifying, as he would be the 26th & final car to hit the track for time trials. Going out late would hurt Cooper as the track seemed to slow down. He would end up timing in 26th quickest out of 26 cars.
That lined Cooper up on the inside of the fourth row in the 7th starting spot. As he started in 7th, it would be tough to pass in the heat race. He would end up finishing the heat race where he had started in the 7th spot.
Going into the B-main, Cooper would start in the 10th spot. Only six cars transferred, so Cooper would have to get moving to make his first feature. The track would be greasy & hard to pass in the B-main. Despite that, Cooper would move forward & finish 8th, but miss the transfer spot by two spots.
“The car felt great, the track was super fast in hotlaps, but slimy in the B main. We got through it, I gotta lot of work to do on my driving, but that comes with time and experience.”
It was a good first night of racing for Cooper in Petaluma. While he didnt make the feature, he was able to get a lot of good laps under his belt & was able to keep the car out of trouble.
