5/15/24… Marysville, California: Saturday Night, Drake Standley was in action at Marysville Raceway. After engine issues in Chico on Friday, they made the change to the backup engine for Saturday & were able to make it out to the track.
The night started out with qualifying where Drake went out in group three. Qualifying went well for Drake as he was able to lay down a good lap. He ended up timing in 5th quickest out of 21 Winged 360 Sprint Cars.
He went out for the heat race & rolled off from 3rd. After the front row was penalized for a bad start, Drake was able to roll off from the pole. He quickly jumped out to the lead & went on to win the heat race from there.
When pill draw came around, Drake pulled the one & would start on the pole of the feature. Early on, he jumped out to the lead. Unfortunately he’d get into a lap car on lapped traffic & fell back to 2nd. While the car was fast, he wasn’t able to get back into the lead & ended up finishing 2nd.
“After thrashing to get the backup motor in, we were able to make it to marysville Saturday. Qualified in 5th quick out of 21 cars. We lined up 3rd in the heat race, & after the front row jumped the initial start, I was able to start pole. We got out into the lead & never looked back. In the feature I was able to jump into the lead. Unfortunately lap traffic was an issue & I ran into the back of one & lost the lead. Although I had such a good racecar, I just couldn’t find the speed to get back into the lead.”
While it wasn’t the result that Drake & the team wanted, it was still a good finish for the team. They didn’t miss a beat on Saturday Night & ended up coming up just short of the feature win on Saturday in Marysville.
