5/22/23... Placerville, California: Saturday Night, Drake Standley & his team would be back in action at Placerville Speedway. Drake would put together a solid night & was able to bring home a 14th place finish when it was all said & done.
The night started with qualifying, where Drake would hit the track early. He would start out 4th quick, but would fall backwards as the track got better. When qualifying was done, Drake would end up being 12th quickest overall.
"Went out in in the first group and was 4th but slowly fell back to 12th after the track conditions got better through the rest of the groups."
Drake would lineup on the pole of the heat race but would be called for a jump start. He would be penalized a row & start 3rd. Early on he would run 2nd, battling with Dominic Gorden. Unfortunately, late in the race the top would come in as Drake tried to work the bottom & he would fall back to 5th where he finished.
"Started pole of heat 3 and got called for a jumpstart which was unfortunate. Restarted 3rd and made a move to 2nd right away , there I would battle Dominic Gorden for 2nd most of the race until the last 3 laps when the top came in and got passed putting me back to 5th."
He would roll out for the feature as he started 11th. Early on, Drake would charge forward, getting himself into the top-5. Unfortunately, the top would come in late & Drake would stay on the bottom for too long. He would fall back to 11th before making a mistake on the final restart & finishing 14th.
"Started 11th in the feature and made a few early moves that put me up to 5th. But I stuck to the bottom for too long again trying to find speed there and slowly lost all the positions I gained," Drake added. "That put me back to 11th and on the last 4 laps after a restart I made another mistake which put me at 14th."
It was a good night for Drake despite the 14th place finish. He would have a top-5 car, but some bad luck would hurt his finishing position.
