5/21/24… Marysville, California: Saturday Night, Drake Standley was back in action at Marysville Raceway. With most California tracks dark on Saturday, the competition was tough with 24 Winged 360 Sprint Cars in attendance.
The night began with qualifying for Drake. Unfortunately, he was the very last car to hit the track. By then, the track had slowed down & Drake was at a disadvantage. He ended up timing in 18th quickest overall.
Going into his heat race, Drake rolled off from the inside of row three in 5th. He was able to showcase his speed as he began to move forward. Drake got to 4th & had a good battle for 3rd, before settling for a 4th place finish.
With a tough qualifying time, Drake started the feature event deep, as he rolled off from 19th. He had work to do & quickly got going. Drake was able to make it work around the bottom & ended up getting to 6th where he’d finish.
“Coming off a 2nd place finish, we were looking for one spot better this weekend. Didn’t have the best start at that by pulling a bad pill & being last car out to qualify. We went 18th out of 24 cars as the track was just gone. Started 5th in the heat, had a good battle for 3rd but ended up 4th by the end of it. We ended up starting 19th in the feature cause of our qualifying time so I had some work to do. We did just that & found a good line around the bottom & worked our way up to 6th by the end of the race.”
It was another good night for Drake & the #54s team. Coming off a 2nd place finish, the goal was to improve from that. Despite not doing that, they were able to have another good night & Drake was able to finish in 6th.
