9/13/24… Billings, Montana: Saturday Night, Jake Dewitt returned to action at Big Sky Speedway. It was his first time back in action since the passing of his father & he looked to have a good night in the Wingless Sprint.
“First race since dad’s passing, wasn’t necessarily nervous but wanted to do good obviously. My mom flew in for the race so it made it a little more special.”
Jake kicked the night off with heat race action where he’d roll off from the outside of the front row in 2nd. He ended up falling to the back, but was able to race his way back up to the 5th spot & finished the heat race there.
Entering the feature, he’d start on the outside of the front row with the invert. Rolling off from 2nd, he’d lead early on before falling back to 2nd. Eventually falling back to 3rd, Jake would end up going off the track & tagging the back of the field.
Trying to make his way forward, Jake wasted no time to charge to the front. Ripping off consistent laps, Jake got back into the top-5. He’d get back up to the 4th spot & ended up finishing the feature event there to end the points season.
“Heat race we weren’t great started 2nd, went to the back and drove back to 5th. Led the first lap of the feature, then fell back to 3rd. I got frustrated knowing I had a good car I just couldn’t get smooth laps down. Ended up going off in 3 & 4 & had to restart 10th. Didn’t waste any time after that, I was just focused on making consistent laps ultimately driving back to 4th.”
It was a good night for Jake as he had a car that was capable of battling for the win. He ended up coming home with a 4th place finish & having one of his best nights of the season to end the points season.
