5/31/23... Perris, California: Saturday Night, James Turnbull would return to action with the USAC CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway. After a break from racing action, James would bring home a 7th place finish in his return.
The night started with qualifying, where James would look to get comfortable in the car. It would be his first real laps in the new car & it would show. James would not get the laps he wanted & ended up 12th quickest overall.
James then rolled off from the pole of his heat race. He would jump out to the early lead. However, while leading James would end up half spinning & falling backwards. He would battle back to a 6th place finish which would line him up deep in the feature.
"We Qualified 12th and then half spun leading my heat race and raced back to 6th."
In the feature, James started deep as he rolled off from 13th. Starting 13th, James was able to begin getting comfortable behind the wheel of the new car. He would start moving forward before losing his brakes. James would move to the bottom & salvage a 7th place finish.
"That put us 13th for the feature, & I finally got comfortable in the car and started driving through the field. I ended up losing the brakes and had to just salvage the run I was making. We ended up 7th with is our best finish this year with CRA so i’m happy with that."
James would have a solid return to action after a while off of racing. He showed a ton of speed & got better throughout the night as he got more comfortable.
