6/14/23... Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, John Clark & the CCI Racing Team would be in action at Petaluma Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. It would be the first visit of the year off John, it would also be the best finish of the 2023 season for the driver of the 12J.
The night started out with group qualifying, in which John was the 2nd car to hit the track in group number three. It wasn't the start that John wanted, as they would end up going 5th quickest in group number three.
"We made the trip to our home track Petaluma for the Scct race. I would be in group 3 where I would end up qualifying 5th in the group."
John then started heat race number three in the 5th spot on the inside of row number three. Starting 5th, John got off to a good start as the driver of the 12J would quickly get to 3rd. However, John ended up falling backwards & finishing in the 4th spot.
"That would put me starting 5th in the heat race. In the heat race I was able to get a good start and drive up to 3rd until I eventually got passed and ended up finishing in 4th."
When the feature event came around, John was going to start deep as they would roll off from 17th. However, John would get to work early. In just a matter of a few laps, the 12J was closing in on the top-10. They would continue to pick cars off, battling up to as high as 6th. When the checkered flag came out, John would be in the 8th spot.
"In the main event I started 17th. In the first 3 laps I drove it up to 12th knowing that I had a good car. I would continue to make a few more passes and race between 6th and 8th for the final few laps. I was able to finish 8th after a hard fought race."
That would be the best finish in 2023 for John so far. On top of that, they rolled the car in the trailer with no damage & feeling good about the 8th place finish.
