10/5/23… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Josh Gillis was back in action with the Joe Hunt Magneto’s Wingless Series at Petaluma Speedway. It would be his first race with the series since August & he looked to have a good night on Saturday.
He began the night with time trials, as he would be the 3rd of 26 cars to hit the track. He went out early on a track that was still pretty greasy. Josh would end up timing in 24th quickest overall out of 26 Wingless Sprints.
Josh would then start his heat race from the outside of the third row. He started in the 6th spot, & would need to finish in the top-4 to make the feature. When the green fell, Josh was able to gain a spot. Unfortunately, he’d have to settle for a 5th place finish & go to the B-main.
That put him in the B-main, where he’d start on the outside of the fourth row in the 8th spot. Once again, he started outside of the transfer spot & needed to make the top-6 to make the feature. After starting 8th, Josh had a solid B-main as he’d go from 8th to 5th & make a transfer spot.
Going into the feature, Josh would start in the 21st spot after transferring from the B-main. He started deep in the feature & just tried to move forward as far as possible. Unfortunately, his feature came to an early end on lap 8, and he’d have to settle for a 21st place finish.
Overall, it was a solid night for Josh & his team. He was able to get some good laps under his belt & continues to get better. He was also able to make another feature & bring home a 20th place finish.
