Josh Gillis Comes Home 14th in Petaluma!

By: Fast Time Media

8/22/23… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Josh Gillis & his team returned to the track to run with the Joe Hunt Series at Petaluma Speedway. He would end up battling his way to a 14th place finish on Saturday Night.

Josh kicked Saturday Night off with time trials, where he was the 15th of 29 cars to hit the track. Early on in the night, they would struggle to get the setup right. Josh would end timing in 25th quick overall in time trials.

That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row in 7th for heat race action. Petaluma was very hooked up on Saturday Night which made it hard to pass. That would show during heat race action, where Josh would finish where he started in 7th.

He would have to go out for the B-main where he lined up on the inside of row five in the 9th spot. In the B-main, Josh would begin to find speed. He was able to get himself into the 8th & final transfer spot & hang on to make the feature event.

“We struggled to find the setup all night for a very hooked up track. Qualified terrible, struggled all night up until the end of the B when I found a bit of speed & barely put it in the feature.”

Once in the feature, Josh rolled off from the 24th & final transfer spot. Starting deep, Josh slowly began to move his war forward. However, after gaining a bunch of spots Josh would be involved in a big pileup. That would break the right front shock.

After the pileup, Josh would battle his car as it was tough to drive on a hooked up Petaluma Speedway. Josh would just have to hang on to it for the rest of the race. He would be able to do that, hanging on to it & finishing in the 14th spot despite the damage to it.

“Was rolling pretty good early and up a few spots then got caught up in a pileup and broke the right front shock. Car was extremely hard to drive with no shock in those track conditions. From there I just stayed out of the way and ended up 14th.”

It was a rough night for Josh & the team. Amongst all the issues thrown at them, Josh was still able to bring home a 14th place finish & gain ten spots in the fetaure event.
