4/18/23... Antioch California: Saturday Night, Josh Gillis would make the trip to Antioch California for the Hunt Series Opener. A very strong field of 35 Wingless Sprint Cars would be in the pit area ready to get the 2023 season rolling.
The night would get going with qualifying. After fixing some issues from Hot Laps, Josh would be the 8th car out of 35 cars to hit the track. He would end up laying down a solid time that would put him 22nd quickest overall.
"During hot laps we were running on 7 cylinders, ended up just being a bad plug, got it swapped out and hit the track for qualifying & ended up 22nd of 35 cars."
Josh would then line up on the inside of row three in the 5th spot for his heat race. He would end up spinning out early & having to go to the back. In the back he would drive back up to 7th where he would finish, but unfortunately miss the transfer spot.
"started 5th in the 2nd heat and I Spun it early on. Then I drove it back up to p7."
Next up would be the B-main event where Josh would roll off from the 7th spot. He would get rolling early on, as he would battle his way forward. Josh would end up getting up to 3rd in a transfer spot. Then with three to go, a Steering Rod would break & bring his night to an early end.
"Started 7th in the B, was up to 3rd and in a transfer spot, steering rod broke with 3 to go. Ended up p11 in the B," Josh continued. "Good news is we nailed the setup in the B and the car was fast and we are on the right track."
It was a pretty solid night for Josh in his Hunt Series opener. He would show a ton of speed & if not for some bad luck, Josh had a solid night going for himself.
