6/14/23... Watsonville, California: Friday & Saturday Night would see Kaleb Montgomery in action at Ocean Speedway & Petaluma Speedway. Kaleb began the weekend with a 4th place finish at Ocean Speedway & followed it up with a 7th place finish in Petaluma with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
Friday started with qualifying, where Kaleb would be the 18th car to hit the track. Despite going out late, Kaleb managed to go 2nd quickest overall. That started him 4th in the heat race where he drove up to 2nd & finished there. He pulled the 5 in the dash draw & finished where he started the dash in 5th.
"On Friday at ocean we started off strong with second in qualifying. Followed it up with a second in the heat race."
Kaleb started the feature event in the 5th spot. Early on he would quickly get to the 4th position. After the cautions passed, Kaleb began a long battle with Rickey Sanders for 3rd. They changed positions a few times, but Kaleb would come home in the 4th spot behind Rickey.
" In the feature we started 5th and moved forward to 4th. Had a pretty awesome battle with Rickey for 3rd but ended up in 4th."
Saturday saw Kaleb in action at Petaluma with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. He was the 5th car out in group number one for qualifying. Kaleb battled issues in qualifying which resulted in him having no power steering. Despite that, he still came home 3rd quickest in his group.
They fixed the issues & he rolled off from 2nd in the first heat race. Kaleb would jump out to the lead & went on to capture the heat race win. Once again, Kaleb found himself in the dash. This time he would pull the two pill & start 2nd. In the dash he would go from 2nd to 3rd & finish in the 3rd spot.
"In Petaluma I lost power steering in hot laps and changed the wrong line so I didn’t have power steering in qualifying but still managed 3rd," Kaleb continued. "Mad respect to the old guys who never ran power steering! In the heat we started second and got the heat win putting us in the dash."
When the feature event rolled around, Kaleb would be rolling off from 3rd in a very good spot. Starting 3rd, Kaleb would run a solid race but it wasn't the race he wanted. Kaleb would hang up front for a while battling in the top-5. Ultimately, he fell back to 7th where he finished.
" In the feature we made some wrong decisions and just sucked. I brought the car home seventh but it rolled into the trailer. Looking forward to next weekend!"
It was another good weekend for Kaleb Montgomery. He continues to put together consistent races & finds himself up front & battling for the win.
