9/5/24… Saturday & Sunday Night, Kaleb Montgomery was in action as he took the wings off for a big double header weekend. He kicked the weekend off on Saturday with the USAC CRA Sprint Cars at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway & then made the trip to Santa Maria Speedway with the USCS Sprint Cars on Sunday!
Kaleb kicked the night off with time trials. He hit the track & didn’t quite get the lap he wanted, but still timed in 12th quickest overall. He then went out for the heat race where he’d start & finish in the 3rd position.
“Saturday did not start off so hot. The gear wasn’t comfortable & neither was I yet at kern. I believe we went 12th quick out of 28 cars & started 3rd in the heat. We ran around there setting us up to start 12th in the feature.”
The feature Kaleb seemed to be much more comfortable in the car. He started in the 12th spot but quickly went to work. Making his way forward, Kaleb was able to charge up to the 6th spot where he finished the feature.
“We got a good jump in the feature & battled around 6th, ultimately finishing there. I moved all over the track to try & find comfort, but it wasn’t until the last two laps I actually found my pace.”
Sunday was a much better night for Kaleb. He kicked the night off going out early in his group for time trials & ended up quick time in the group & 2nd overall. That put him in the 5th starting spot for the feature event where he’d go on to gain a spot & finish 4th.
“Santa Maria started off & and we got second quick overall & quick time in our group. We tightened up for the heat race, & that wasn’t the move so we finished 4th.”
Kaleb started the feature event in 4th & got a great start. He quickly got to 2nd & began to track down the leader. A caution came out on lap six & Kaleb would make his move there. On the restart, he made the pass & grabbed the lead.
Once in the lead, Kaleb was able to get into a rhythm. He was able to pull away & was ripping off laps. He was able to lead the remaining 24 laps & grabbed the win. It was an important win for Kaleb as it was the “Race For Chase” for Chase Johnson.
“In the main we started 4th. I got a great start & quickly jumped up to 2nd. We ran around there for 6 laps until a restart when we made the move stick for the lead. We lead 24 laps at the race for chase, & that means so much to me. Super happy I got to take home the beautiful check but now it’s time for outlaws!”
It was a good weekend for Kaleb with the wings off the car. He started Saturday a little rough, but grabbed a 6th place finish & then was able to grab the win on Sunday Night at Santa Maria Speedway in the “Race For Chase.”
