6/18/24… Santa Maria, California: Saturday Night, Kaleb took the wings off & was in action with the Ultimate Speint Car Series. A solid field of 26 Non-Winged Sprint Cars would be in action for the Santa Maria reopening.
Kaleb started the night out in time trials on a very strong note. Going out as one of the last cars in group two, he would lay down a lightning quick time & go Quick Time. Unfortunately, the next guy out would knock him back to 2nd where he’d finish.
Despite that, Kaleb was in a good spot for his heat race as he rolled off from 4th. Starting 4th, he quickly was able to get to 2nd. Trailing the leader for a few laps, Kaleb pounced & was able to grab the lead, before going on to win the heat race.
“Started off the night with lots of speed & grip! We went 2nd quick in our group & overall so that put us starting in 4th in the heat. We were in a must win situation to make the redraw from the heat. We got the early jump & then made some moves to pass for the lead & won the heat race.”
As they entered the feature, Kaleb started in 5th. Once again, he was quickly able to move forward. After a few early cautions, Kaleb was battling for the lead by lap 8. Unfortunately, while trying to make a pass for the lead, Kaleb would get tangled up with the leader as they went for a wild ride.
It was a tough end to the weekend. The car would not be able to continue for the feature event & Kaleb would end up finishing with a dnf in the 18th position.
“From there we started 5th in the main & worked our way up to 2nd pretty quick. I was making a pass for the lead & got tangled up with the leader causing us to get upside down. Not the way I wanted to end such a great night but we had speed!”
Overall, it was an impressive night for Kaleb at Santa Maria Speedway. Despite limited laps in a Non-Winged Sprint Car over the past few years, he definitely had the best car on Saturday & was in a spot to battle for the win.
