7/20/23… Watsonville, California: Friday & Saturday Night, Kaleb Montgomery was back in action at Ocean Speedway for The Howard/Kaeding Classic. The weekend would be highlighted by a 7th place finish on Saturday Night.
Kaleb started Friday Night by going out late for qualifying. He would time in his 360 19th quick. He then started his heat race from the inside of row four in the 7th spot. Kaleb did just what he needed, as he moved forward & finished in the 6th spot.
“Friday night started off really slow. Qualified terrible due to trying new things that didn’t work out. Started 7th in the heat and made the transfer.”
He rolled off from the 19th spot for the Friday Night feature event. Starting 19th, Kaleb would begin his charge toward the front. He was able to gain over a handful of spots, as he went from 19th to finish in the 11th spot.
Saturday Night got started with time trials. Kaleb would roll out in group two & timed in 5th quickest in the group. In the heat race, Kaleb started in the 5th spot & would hold on to grab the 5th spot & the final transfer spot.
“On Saturday the night also started off very slow qualifying 5th in our group due to making the wrong line choice. In the heat we got the transfer starting us 18th in the feature.”
Kaleb rolled off for the feature event from the outside of row nine in the 18th spot. Starting deep, Kaleb put his nose down & got moving. He would hard charge his way from 18th to 7th, grabbing the 7th place finish.
“From there I made some big swings in the car that felt really good. We kept our head down and drove our way up to 7th even sticking my nose under Colby coming across the line.“
He had another consistent weekend of racing at Ocean Speedway. Both nights got started off to rough starts, however he rebounded on both nights & hard charged on Saturday.
