9/27/23… Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Luke Hayes would be back in action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. He entered the night as one of the favorites to win the series Rookie of the Year award this season!
Luke kicked the night off with qualifying, where he would be the 4th of six cars in his group to hit the track. As he went out a little later in qualifying, Luke would be able to lay down a time of 13.155. That would be enough to put the driver of the #9L 5th quickest in his group.
He entered the heat race slated to start in the 5th spot. Despite automatically locking into the feature with the low car count, he would still want to gain as many spots as possible. Unfortunately, Luke would fall back to 6th & finish there.
That set him up to start deep in the feature event. Luke would roll off from 21st, but quickly begin to make his way towards the front. As he avoided some wrecks & stayed out of trouble, Luke was able to make his way to the 13th spot where he would finish the night.
It was a solid ending to a tough night for Luke & his team. While they got off to a tough start in qualifying & heat race action, he would rebound in the feature & bring home a decent finish.
