9/28/22…Petaluma California: Saturday Night, Luke Hayes and the Hayes Farms Racing team would make their final appearance of the season at Petaluma. It was Adobe Cup time with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as a great field of 28 Winged 360 Sprint Cars would pack the pit area.
Luke would get his night started in qualifying where he would end up going out in a tough 2nd group. He would need a good lap and he would get just that as he would end up going 2nd quick out of the 7 Winged 360 Sprint Cars in his group.
The heat race would see him roll off from the inside of row number 1 where he would start 1st. Starting 1st Luke would lead some laps but ultimately lose the lead. When the checkered flag fell, he would finish in the 2nd spot & so just enough to punch his ticket to the dash.
In the dash, he would start on the inside of row 4 in the 7th position. He would get a rough start and fall back to 8th. After that the track would be its old self as it was once again a one lane hooked up track. Luke would finish the dash in the 8th spot, and set himself up solidly for the feature.
When the feature rolled around, Luke would start on the outside of row 4 in the 8th spot. Starting 8th he would struggle early as he would fall back. However he would find his rhythm and make some good passes. When the caution filled feature ended, Luke would come home in the 11th spot as he continues to improve this year.
It was a solid night for Luke as he would continue to show off his qualifying speed. Once again qualifying at the top of his group & having a good heat race finish would set himself up nicely. He would end it off solidly with an 11th place finish.
