8/15/23…Petaluma, California: Saturday Night, Nick Robfogel was back in action at his home track of Petaluma Speedway. 17 Wingless Sprints would be in action on Saturday Night for a normal Petaluma Weekly Show.
Nick started the night out with time trials, where he was the 8th of 17 cars to hit the track. He would have a super fast car & it showed early on in the night. Nick was able to time in quick time & put himself in a good spot for the night.
That put him on the outside of the second row starting 4th for his heat race. Nick was in a good spot & just needed a solid finish to make the redraw. Unfortunately, he would run out of fuel in the heat race & finished in the 6th spot.
“Unloaded fast in hot laps and set quick time in qualifying. Started the heat race with the mindset of just transfer don’t push as I would automatically be in the pill draw as quick time but that’s where it all went wrong,” Nick continued. “The fuel didn’t get topped off and half way through the heat I ran out of fuel thus not transferring and loosing my quick time pill draw.”
With a tough finish to the heat race, Nick missed the redraw & would start in the 13th spot for the feature event. The track would be dominated on the bottom lane making it hard to pass. Despite that, Nick was able to make his way into 3rd. Unfortunately, his charge would run out of time & he would have to settle for a 3rd place finish.
“Started the main in 13th and once again had to dip, dodge, duck and weave traffic on another follow the leader bottom grove track but once again finishing on the podium in third. I’m positive I had the car to contend for the win but had very few laps to work the leaders by the time I got there and simply ran out of laps.“
He didn’t end the night the way they wanted too, but it was still another good points night for Nick & another night on the podium. He has been impressive all year & Saturday Night in Petaluma was no different.
